A head constable has been arrested by the Bengaluru police for allegedly sexually abusing a minor girl at his home in the city. A case has been registered against him under the POCSO Act.
According to the police, the survivor, a second PU student, who is the daughter of the younger brother of the Basavaraju’s wife’s, had come to his house four days ago for vacation. When Basavaraju’s wife and children had gone out on Monday morning, the survivor went to take bath. Taking advantage of the situation, Basavaraju allegedly barged inside and sexually assaulted the girl.
According to the police, Basavaraju (45), posted at the Sriramapura police station in the city allegedly abused his close relative at his home last week. The victim is the daughter of his wife’s brother. Basavaraju has been remanded into judicial custody after the girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the police.
When the victim was questioned, she stated Basavaraj had sexually assaulted while she was studying SSLC and he did it again on Monday,” the officer said.
Basavaraj claimed that they (victim’s parents) were conspiring against him as there is an ongoing property dispute, reported DH.
Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Both the accused and the victim have been subjected to medical tests.
“The victim has claimed that the man had also attempted to rape her two years ago. The man has been remanded in judicial custody and suspended from duty,” said DCP (North) TR Suresh.
Basavaraju is maintaining innocence and claimed that he was being framed in the case. The girl (17-years-old) is undergoing medical examination to ascertain whether she was sexually abused by the cop.
