32 collegians arrested for racing bikes on Western Express Highway

Nearly 32 college students were arrested by the Kherwadi police in a special drive to curb speedsters on the Western Express Highway on Monday midnight. Only five of the accused had valid driving licences.

“We called the boys’ parents and asked them to warn their sons of the risks. They ride triple seat and in groups and even attempts to hit or run over police officials if they try to stop them. These races are often held between 12am and 2am on the highway,” said senior inspector Sujata Patil. The police had initiated the drive following repeated complaints about rash driving and accidents on the Western Express Highway around midnight.
