Kerala is often called as ‘The Land of Gods’ but yo will be totally mistaken when you see the atrocities that take place in the state. It will come as a shocker that in the first half of this year, nearly on an average 5 rapes per day have taken place and that two more number of minors have been the victims according to reports on crime against women and children  released by the State police on Friday. 886 rape cases have been registered in the state during the first half of this year out of which 322 victims were minors.

District wise number of minors have not yet been reported but Thiruvananthapuram district topped the list with 85 cases followed by Malappuram with 64 cases. In the year 2014, the total number of rape cases registered in the State were 1,283. What’s more bewildering is that, other cases of violence like dowry, abduction  and child marriages have also increased drastically in Kerala. 2 dowry deaths, 19 dowry death cases last year, 6 cases of child marriage, 69 minors have been abducted and 76 women were kidnapped.
