A man has been arrested in the death and sexual assault of an 8-year-old Illinois girl who disappeared while waiting for a church bus the day before Thanksgiving.
Glen Ramey, 53, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and predatory sexual assault in connection to the death of 8-year-old Sabrina Stauffenberg.
Just days later on Nov. 27, police arrested 53-year-old Glen Ramey in connection with Sabrina’s death. The suspect was taken into custody around 2:20 a.m. that day and charged with first-degree murder as well as predatory sexual assault.
“She was standing on her front porch, waiting for the church bus. She was on the phone with her grandma at the time,” Denise Haley, a friend of Sabrina’s family, told the media outlet. “She was telling her grandma that the church bus hadn’t come.” Sabrina’s grandmother then hung up and called the church to ask why the bus was late. But when she tried to call Sabrina back, there was sadly no answer.
Sabrina’s aunt, who was home at the time, suspected the girl had been lured away since she didn’t hear any commotion, the News-Democrat reported.
Search crews later found Sabrina’s body near a vinegar plant.
Around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Ramey was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder and predatory sexual assault. Illinois State Police arrested Ramey.
Haley told the News-Democrat that Ramey had been dating one of Sabrina’s relatives.
He is currently being held at Richland County Jail.
Haley has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Sabrina’s funeral expenses. More than $10,000 was raised within three days.
