Yesteryears Telugu actor and former Congress MLA Jayasudha’s husband, Nitin Kapoor allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a building in Mumbai. The reason behind the alleged suicide, however, is not clear.
Actor-producer Nitin Kapoor, the husband of South Indian actress Jayasudha and cousin of yesteryear’s Bollywood superstar Jeetendra, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of a six-storey building in Andheri’s Seven Bungalows on Tuesday.
While no suicide note has been recovered from the spot, initial investigations ruled out any foul play.
According to police, the deceased was living at his sister’s flat at Sea Glimpse in Andheri while Jayasudha was away at their house in Hyderabad.
On Tuesday afternoon, he told his sister’s family that he was going out for a walk. But he headed straight to the terrace and jumped off it around 1.45pm.
Kapoor was rushed to Kokilaben Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
According to his family members, Kapoor had been under severe depression since a long time.
“He has been jobless since the past 18 years and was facing acute financial crisis. He had left his Hyderabad home, where he used to reside with his actress-wife Jayasudha, and came to stay with his sister a few months ago. He did not like to stay there or take any help from his relatives, but he had no other option,” said a relative.
Another added that Kapoor was very quiet on Monday and did not speak to anyone.
“He appeared to be lost in deep thought, but no one suspected anything amiss,” said the relative.
“Till now, it seems to be a case of suicide. We are recording the statements of the witnesses and family members. Investigations are on,” said an officer from Versova police station.
The couple seemed very much in love and were married for 30 years and were survived by two sons-Nihar and Shreayan, who are into film industry.
She was a leading actor in the 70s and 80s. Jayasudha acted in several movies opposite Tollywood legend Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, who went on to become chief minister of united Andhra Pradesh. She also starred opposite Tollywood ‘Mega Star’ Chiranjeevi, and NTR’s son and TDP minister Nandamuri Balakrishna.
