One of the most sought after questions in Indian cinema is obviously ‘why did Katappa kill Baahubali?’. Ahead of the release of the much-anticipated sequel Baahubali: The Conclusion, actor Sathyaraj, who plays the eponymous character Katappa in the film, has made an interesting revelation.
What made the question more poignant was that it was asked at the spot where film’s Kattappa killed Baahubali. And it appeared that Sathyaraj was in the mood to answer, only it was not an answer we have heard before, “Because my director told me to.” We have heard the answer before. Last year, in a video interview, SS Rajamouli was asked the same question and his answer was similar, “Kattappa killed Baahubali because I asked him to.”
He said, “Everyone in the world is asking me the same thing. I don’t even get irritated by that question. I have not even told my family about it. I have been in the industry for over 40 years. It is not ethical to reveal climax or the crucial part of the story. I knew the character would become famous but had no idea that it would gain so much popularity across the nation. Even memes were being made on the different situations. Like when demonetisation happened, there were memes on my character. I feel happy about it.”
Baahubali: The Conclusion is an upcoming Indian epic historical fiction film directed by S. S. Rajamouli. It is the continuation of Baahubali: The Beginning. Initially, both parts were jointly produced on a budget of ₹2.5 billion (US$37 million), however the budget of the second part was increased later. Baahubali: The Conclusion has made a business of ₹5 billion (US$74 million) before release. The film is scheduled for a worldwide release on 28 April 2017.
Prabhas was cast as main lead of the film. Anushka Shetty was cast as the heroine of the film as she was also a part of Mirchi (2013). She coincidentally became the first heroine Rajamouli repeated in his films and thus made her schedules full for 2013 and 2014. Rana Daggubati was recruited as the antagonist of the film and coincidentally he was also a part of Rudhramadevi. Sathyaraj signed the film.
