A case has been registered under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code by the police on two men who were alleged of gang raping a 44-year-old woman from California who visited India for the first time. An investigation started on the case. However police said on Thursday that there was no indication of rape as per the medical examination provided. According to the American lady, she was drugged and raped on Monday night when she was returning to her hotel after buying groceries from the Kotwali Bazaar market. What’s surprising is that the result of the examination done on her indicated no rape, Superintendent of Police (Kangra) Abhishek Dular told PTI. “Even no injury or wound was found.”

The police officials are waiting for the report of a chemical investigation from Shimla. Thereafter, a clear picture would emerge soon. Mr. Dular said the CCTV footage at the hotel, located in a crowded area of Kotwali Bazaar, showed her leaving the room on Monday night for just 15 minutes. But the police are investigating the matter from every angle. “The case is being investigated by Deputy Superintendent of Police Renu Sharma,” he said. The woman alleged that she had gone to a shop on September 14 when two persons attacked her from behind. She came to India a week ago and visited Kullu and Manali before reaching Dharamsala.
