It’s not the first time a Hollywood Cartoon Film takes over the regional and Bollywood releases and gets more occupancy. But this time, it’s not one film; ‘Angry Birds’ sling was targeted to three Bollywood films.
Though the film isn’t critically acclaimed and faced comments like ‘the movie lacks the creative vision’, it didn’t fail to get maximum occupancy. Being a summer release, kids are lining up at the ticket window and parents aren’t left with much choice. For now Angry Birds has opened with good 15% occupancy and running successfully (according to numbers). Kids don’t care about reviews, do they?
On the other hand, Bollywood releases of this week, Veerappan, waiting and Phobia have some disappointing occupancy. Surprisingly all the three films are being praised well by the critics and audience. But that couldn’t win over the craze of Angry Birds. Phobia and Waiting are able to gather 2 to 3% occupancy where as Veerappan is able to accumulate 7 to 8%. These numbers might go proportionate towards the weekend.
Hopefully the comedy entertainer ‘Housefull 3’ which will hit theatres next week will change the game and back strike the flock.
