There was panic, tension and shock in Mainpuri for most of Wednesday after the body of a 3-year-old Mulsim girl was found with one hand, an ear and one leg chopped off. Cops have detained five men for interrogation even as local residents shut down the market and gheraoed the police station alleging inaction.
The incident, which happened at Brahmnan in Mainpuri, has shaken the city, with rumours agog the whole day after police were informed about the mutilated body of the little girl, Falak Ali, flung at a desolate stretch. Parents of the child claimed that the girl had gone to the local madrassa on Tuesday and never returned. They also alleged that cops did not register an FIR when they first approached them.
Panic prevailed in the village as news of the girl’s death spread. Soon, a crowd of protesters led by the deceased’s family gathered around the accused’s house. Later, protesters also gheraoed the local police station. As the agitation spread, markets wore a deserted look and shopkeepers downed their shutters.
Under pressure, cops lodged an FIR against five men, including Mohd Jalaluddein, the madrassa owner and local SP leader, and his sons under IPC’s sections 364 (kidnapping) and 302 (murder).
Mainpuri SSP Rakesh Shankar said, “We have arrested five people, including Mohd Jalaluddein and his sons. Interrogations are on.”
District SP chief Khuman Singh Verma said the accused is a senior party leader and one of his daughters-in-law is a local corporator. “He, along with senior party leader Totaram Yadav, was recently felicitated by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav at a function held in Lucknow
