A STICKER on the back of the mini bus that she was raped in and three digits of the vehicle’s registration number that she remembered helped the Bengaluru police arrest the two men who allegedly sexually assaulted a BPO employee in the city.
According to the police, the victim, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, was waiting for an autorickshaw near her workplace in Bommanahalli around 9.30pm on Saturday, when the mini bus offered her a ride. After she boarded the vehicle, its two occupants, who were reportedly in an inebriated state, held her at knifepoint and allegedly raped her at an isolated spot off the Old Airport Road. After nearly five hours, she was dropped off at Madivala, where she stays in a paying guest facility.
Police Commissioner N S Megharikh on Tuesday said the two are Suneel Omkarappa (23) and Yogesh Malleshappa (27), both drivers by profession. They have confessed to the crime. “We will also check if the woman’s employer can be booked for negligence and not following guidelines regarding the safety of women employees,” he said.
