Chennai Floods: Passports For Free Of Cost

The Union Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj announced that all the flood-affected residents of Chennai and other districts who have lost or damaged their passports will be issued new passports free of cost. The minister devised a special Tatkal scheme for prompt re-issue of passports to the flood affected people in Chennai and other districts.
The special scheme, effective from December 8 (Tuesday), would be valid for two months, an official release said.

There will be instant re-issue of passports damaged in rains, free of cost at regional passport offices, it said.

A special ‘passport mela’ for flood victims would also be conducted on December 12 at three Passport Seva Kendras functioning in Chennai.

To get a duplicate passport, applicants are not required to submit an online application. “An application on plain paper and the flood damaged passport are required”, it said.
