Confirmed: Vijay Sethupathi out of Dhanush’s ‘Vada Chennai’

Vada Chennai is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language gangster thriller film written and directed by Vetrimaran. Produced as a trilogy by A. Subaskaran`s Lyca Productions and Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films with Vetrimaran’s Grass Root Film Company, it features Dhanush in the lead role with Vijay Sethupathi, Amala Paul and Andrea Jeremiah in other key roles.

Speculations have been rife thatVijay Sethupathi has opted out of Dhanush and Vetrimaaran’s ‘Vada Chennai’. Now, it turns out that these speculations are actually true.

At the promotions for his upcoming film ‘Kavan’, Vijay Sethupathi confirmed that he is no longer part of the project. He also added that there are no hard feelings between him, Dhanush or Vetrimaaran, and that they parted on amicable terms. As for the person replacing Vijay as the antagonist, it looks like the makers will only come to a decision once Dhanush wraps up ‘Velai Illa Pattadhari 2’.

The film had been in the news since late 2009 with an official announcement only made in November 2011 that the filming would commence by March 2012. After being temporarily shelved, the film re-materialised in May 2015 with a new cast and production started in June 2016.
