According to reports, director Vetri Maaran’s ‘Visaranai’ has grabbed an award in 72nd Venice Film Festival. Visaranai becomes the first ever Tamil film to win an award in Venice Film Festival. Congratulations to the whole team for a wonderful achievement. The film has won under the title Amnesty International Italy’s Cinema for Human Rights category. It was stated that Riccardo Noury, spokesperson of Amnesty International Italy has said,”Many other films in competition had not dealt the various aspects of human rights with sensitivity and originality. But Visaranai taken from the experience of a survivor, now an activist on Human rights, prevailed over the others”.
The film stars Attakathi Dinesh in the lead role. The film, which spans only for 60 minutes, speaks about the tortures that prisoners undergo during police interrogation. The movie is produced by Dhanush, the film is based on a book called Lock Up, written by Chandrakumar, who drives an auto for a living. The story is based on his horrific experience in Andhra Pradesh police station when he was 17-year old. Great going Vetri Maaran.
