It will definitely come as a total shocker to know that the donkey milk, which is more costly than any premium branded dairy milk, still continues to be  popular in the region as it is believed  to cure breathing ailments, cold, cough, etc. among the children because of its medicinal values. The tribes of Vemulawada village , were seen  arriving  along with five donkeys, were busy selling the donkey milk in the streets of Karimnagar during the early hours as the milk has to be consumed  empty stomach to cure ailments in children. The cost of donkey milk is  Rs. 30 for 10 ml and in case some other Ayurvedic  substance such as herbs are added then the cost is  Rs.50 for 10 ml. Yellaiah, one of the owners of the donkeys  from Vemulwada said that the donkey’s milk is very costly as the animal yields less milk unlike other milking animals.

He claimed  that the donkey would give only around 100 ml to 200 ml of milk per day in spite of providing good fodder. He bought the animal at a cost of Rs. 30,000 and  earns anywhere between Rs.500 to Rs.700 per day by selling its milk and added on to say that that the donkey’s milk is still popular in the rural areas when compared to the urban areas. Moreover there is much demand for donkey’s milk during the monsoons and winter season as children fall sick mostly during these seasons.
