Leander Paes has now won more Grand Slam mixed doubles titles  than any other man in the Open era with his victory in Friday’s championship match. Teaming with Martina Hingis, the No. 4 seeds defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey, 6-4, 3-6, [10-7].

The only other team to win three majors in the same year were Marty Riessen and Margaret Court 46 years ago.

It was his 17th title in total at the majors while Hingis, 34, now has 19 from five singles, 10 women’s doubles and four mixed.

The crucial point of the match came at 7-7, when Paes blocked Querrey’s serve for a clean passing-shot winner. He then won both points on his serve to close out the match, hitting an overhead winner on their first match point and then lifting Hingis in celebration.
