On Monday, a violence has ignited in the town of Churachandpur in Manipur. In the riots, 3 people were killed and five others have been seriously injured as three bills pertaining to the entry of outsiders into the state through a permit system was passed. An evasive curfew has been impeded in the area. Homes of Manipur’s health minister Phungzathang Tonsing and five other MLAs were set on fire during the protests on Monday evening. The reason why their homes were targeted is because of the fact that none of them have raised their voice and objected to the bills in the state assembly.
Totally 7 houses were burnt in the incident that occurred hours after the Assembly passed the three bills to safeguard the native people of Manipur. The three bills include The Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015, The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh amendment) Bill 2015, and The Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015.
