Huma Qureshi: It is a Challenge to Work Away from India

Huma Qureshi has had a great 2017 so far, thanks to the success of Jolly LLB 2. The actor, who is currently working on an Indo-UK project directed by Gurinder Chadha, says that working in collaborative movies is quite different. “It is a challenge to work away from India and with a cast and crew from all over the world. But it’s also very gratifying, and you learn so much by just being with them,” she says.

Huma says that people can learn a lot about each other’s cultures by working together, and she feels collaborative films are the way to go in today’s globalised world. “In a way, it’s also important for the world we live in. We are constantly getting divided by caste, creed, religion and nationality,” says the Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) actor, adding that people like to think that they “are different from others” these days.

“These projects help you realise that beyond such superficial things, we are just people. And in a world constantly governed by hate politics and division, these are valuable lessons,” the actor says.

Of late, a number of Indian actors such as Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Anil Kapoor have worked in movies overseas. Speaking about the trend, Huma says, “As a member of the audience, when you see someone from your country working in an international project, your curiosity about that film increases manifold. Collaboration between different parts of the world will bring us closer. From a business point of view, it opens up new markets as well.”
