India has become only the fourth country after Russia, Great Britain and China with which the US has a hotline. This is the first hotline for India at the state head level .In 2004, India and Pakistan agreed to establish hotlines at the level of foreign secretaries, and in 2010 New Delhi and Beijing announced to establish a hotline at the foreign minister level.
The hotlines between US President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister has become recently operational. The decision to establish hotline between both the leaders was made during Obama’s visit to India for Republic Day on 26 January where in Obama was invited as a chief guest.
