CHENNAI: A 23-year-old IT employee was stabbed to death when she was waiting to board a suburban train at Nungambakkam Railway station on Friday.

Swathi, employed with Infosys in Maraimalai Nagar, was on her way to office and reached the station at 6.45am. She was attacked soon after she reached the platform.

Police said, She was stabbed on her neck and mouth by the killer.

 Her father, Santhanagopala Krishnan, a retired central government employee, dropped her at the station.
Onlookers told police that a man, who was carrying a traveller’s bag, had a heated argument with Swathi. He then took a sickle and stabbed her. Her mobile phone is missing.

According to police, the victim S.Swathi worked in Infosys and was a resident of South Gangai Amman Koil Street, Choolaimedu. She was waiting at platform number 2 of the railway station to board a train to work.

Sources at the railway station said a man approached her as she was waiting, and soon, an argument broke out between them. Subsequently he took out a sharp weapon and hacked her to death.

“We could not see anything further as a huge crowd gathered around the woman. Soon after the attack the man fled the spot,” said a shop keeper at the station.

The railway police has registered a case and are investigating.
