A statement of a psychiatrist has helped the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) build its case against Bollywood actor Sooraj Pancholi who has been charged with abetement to suicide of his former actor girlfriend, Jiah Khan.
“The statement of the doctor has been recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) before a magistrate. In his statement, the doctor has said that Khan had been counseled by him since 2008 and she had confided about the abortions she had underwent. Jiah Khan had claimed that she was impregnated by Sooraj and owing to their career in showbiz, was forced to abort on more than one occasion,” a senior official from the agency told.
The agency filed a supplementary chargesheet on Wednesday against the actor at the Mumbai sessions court. Jiah Khan, an American citizen of Indian origin, was found hanging in her Juhu apartment in June, 2013. The case was initially probed by the Mumbai police which had also chargesheeted Pancholi for abetment of suicide.
However, Jiah’s mother Rabia had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking transfer of the probe to the CBI claiming that it was a case of homicide and not suicide.
The chargesheet also includes a three page note seized by the Mumbai police on June 10, 2013 which was written by Khan. “In the letter she has narrated her intimate relationship, physical abuse and mental torture that she experienced at the hands of the said private person ( Suraj),” the press releases added. The chargesheet also includes the statement of Sooraj’s father , Aditya Pancholi. In his statement, Aditya told the investigators that he was against the relationship as it was coming in the way of Sooraj’s career. Sooraj could not be reached for a comment.
When contacted, Aditya Pancholi, father of Sooraj, said that they will contest the chargesheet. “My son is not guilty of abetment,” said Aditya Pancholi.
