Kangana Ranaut responds to Sexual Harassment Allegations Against director Vikas Bahl

Early this month, a report on Mumbai Mirror stated that director Vikas Bahl has been accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a female employee at Phantom Films, the production house he co-founded with Vikramaditya Motwane, Anurag Kashyap and Madhu Mantena.

At a recent event, Kangana Ranaut, who played the leading lady in Vikas’ 2014 National Award winning film ‘Queen’, was asked to share her opinions on the same. When asked about her viewpoints on women speaking up against harassment at work, in reference to the Vikas Bahl episode, Kangana said, “We are here to talk about a brand, but what you mentioned is a serious topic. Whoever faces such situations and speaks up is courageous. Generally speaking, they should be encouraged to talk about it by their family, colleagues. They should not be shamed. Obviously, there will always be another side to the other story. But people should speak up, whether it is right or wrong.”

“I have heard about this particular lady you are speaking about and the Goa incident. She is not my employee. Yes, I am friends with her, we have worked together and there is a production job we have done together… but if she is feeling like this I would like to sit across a table from her and talk to her. I want to ask her if I have crossed a line, whether I have done anything to hurt her and if she feels that way I would like to apologise for it. I have known her for long,” Bahl recently told.

Given that Kangana has always been outspoken about issues related to women, she was asked to comment on the claims against Bahl while she was at an event for Melange by Lifestyle here on Tuesday.

She said: “This is a very serious issue. I can only say that whoever faces a situation like this, it is very courageous of the women to come out and speak about it.

“If women are facing these situations, they should be encouraged to talk about it and shouldn’t be shamed by their families, environment, and colleagues. We need more women to come out and talk about the issue because that’s how the awareness will come about. That is how I feel.”

Bahl has denied the allegations against him.

But as Kangana says: “There will be another side of the story.”

“And there are people and authorities to decide what the right thing is. But I think people should speak up, whether they are right or wrong, they must speak up and discuss it,” she added.

“More women should come out and talk about whatever they feel because that’s how there will be awareness about these issues and of course, there will always be another side of the story as well and then there will be the authorities, who can decide what is the right thing to do. But people should speak up about whatever they feel, whether they are right or wrong, they must speak up and discuss,” Kangana added.

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut was recently seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon. She will be seen next in Hansal Mehta’s Simran and has currently begun training her upcoming movie Manikarnika, based on the life of Rani Laxmibai.
