Veteran director K.S.Gopalakrishnan hailed as Iyakkunar Thilagam has passed away on Saturday due to a prolonged illness. He was 86 when he breathed his last.Gopalakrishnan has directed more than 70 films throughout the 1960s, 70s and 80s. His most famous films include ‘Saradha’, ‘Karpagam’, Kai Kodutha Deivam’, ‘Chithi’, ‘Panama Pasama’ and ‘Kurathi Magan’ among others.
Gopalakrishnan was also a successful screenwriter, lyricist, and producer. He is credited with giving a huge break to veteran lyricist Vaali by making him write the super hit song sin ‘Karpagam’ at a time when Kannadasan was ruling the roost.The passing legend was the father of six sons, including actor K.S.G.Venkatesh who has appeared in supporting roles in films like ‘Sathuranga Vettai’ and ‘Aasayil Or Kadidham’.
