Sharing is caring!

Now that Tony Abbott has been voted out by the ruling Liberal Party  in favor of arc rival Malcolm Turnbull, following months of infighting and crumbling voter support, Australia will have its 5th prime minister in 8 long years. After the meeting in Canberra, Liberal Party chief whip Scott Buchholz told the reporters that Turnbull, a multi-millionaire former tech entrepreneur, won a secret party vote by 54 to 44. Therefore, elections will be held by the Australian government at the end of next year or even before and Turnbull is expected to take the position of prime minister on Tuesday.

Turnbull in a late night press conference told that he is very humbled by the great honor and responsibility that has been given to him.  He also added on to say that the government will be thoroughly liberal, committed to freedom , the individual and the market. Abbott had earlier pledged to fight the challenge from Turnbull, but was ultimately unsuccessful in overcoming the “destabilisation” that he said had been taking place within the party for months. He walked  out of the party room following the vote with a grumpy face and did not speak to the reporters or the press.
