The hunger strike that was scheduled on October 2 by social activist Anna Hazare has been called off by him on Saturday which was supposed to take place in New Delhi’s Ram Lila grounds as Narendra Modi government had allowed the controversial Land Ordinance to lapse and announced the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) for ex-servicemen. Anna Hazare while speaking to the reporters in his native village Ralegan Siddhi in Ahmednagar district said that he planned to proceed with the hunger strike on Oct 2nd so that the agitation coincides with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri in order to press for the demands pertaining to Land Acquisition Bill and OROP scheme.
Anna Hazare, 77 years of age, claimed that he has been receiving tremendous response from the people who supported him in many public meetings to bolster support and build awareness on these controversial issues. He also said several organisations of Army men and farmers had also launched agitations on a large-scale in tandem which had compelled the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre to withdraw the Land ordinance and finally announce the OROP scheme.
