BENGALURU: A tennis player who was in the city for enrolling for training was allegedly gangraped near the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) located in Central Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park on Wednesday night.
The survivor, who is in her early 30s, had come to the KSLTA to sign up for training from the neighbouring district of Tumkur, but was stranded in the Karnataka capital.
The two security guards at the Cubbon Park, on the pretext of taking her to a bus stop, allegedly gangraped her near Siddalingaiah circle in KSLTA, before leaving her by the road.
Sandeep Patil, deputy commissioner of police, central said: “She came from Tumkur yesterday (Wednesday) with the intention of joining the tennis club inside the park, however the club was closed by then and she was asked to come back the next day.”
Around 9pm, the two security guards, working on contract in Cubbon Park, saw her near the club and started talking to her. “They told her that they would help her with the way. As they were walking near Siddalingaiah circle the park, they raped her,” Patil added.
Police said that two constables on night patrolling found her by the road and the incident came to light. Based on her statement, the security guards of the tennis association were arrested on rape charges.
