Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor has been mired in controversies for a while now. The film which showcases the story of Rani Padmavati aka Padmini was initially slated to release on 1st December 2017.
Actress Priyanka Chopra hopes the controversy surrounding “Padmavati” clears up soon and the people get to witness the magnum opus in all its glory. Priyanka, who featured in a song in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela” and essayed a full-fledged role as Kashibai in his film “Bajirao Mastani”, said she would always stand by the filmmaker. The period drama, “Padmavati”, is yet to receive a certificate from the CBFC. Several Rajput outfits and political leaders have accused the director of “distorting historical facts” in the movie.
Priyanka Chopra who is back in the bay recently was present at an award function. While the actress looked every bit gorgeous, PeeCee was questioned about her opinion over the Padmavati ban at the red carpet where the Desi Girlsaid, “I have an incredible relationship with Sanjay (Leela Bhansali) Sir, and I admire him tremendously. I know this film (Padmavati) will come out and people will see the art behind it. They just have to make sure everything is sorted and I will always stand by not just Sanjay Sir but also Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor for the film.”
Talking about the controversies Deepika Padukone had said in an earlier interview, “As a woman, as an artist, as someone who has worked and given two years of my life to this movie, I feel hurt, I feel angry, but I also think it is extremely funny that people are reacting like this to a film. I am feeling so many emotions at this point.’’
Ranveer Singh had said “I am 200 percent with the film and I stand by it as well as Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I also stand by his vision for the film. He had a vision and has done everything to realise it. Vis-à-vis the film, I can just request the audience and everybody else who have concerns about it to wait and watch the film. One shouldn’t doubt Sanjay Sir; he is a magnificent film-maker and has tremendous respect for Indian culture and an enormous respect for Indian heritage and he will never intentionally hurt sentiments or do anything wrong. He is a good man with good intentions.”
Recent reports also suggest that the film will release on 5th or 12th January 2018.
