“Raid” Movie Story Line:
The movie revolves around the story of Sharda Prashad Pandey, an income tax commissioner in Lucknow, who had raided the house of businessman Sardar Inder Singh in 1981 and recovered assets worth Rs 1.60 crore in cash and gold. The raid went on for 18 hours with 45 people present only for counting notes.
Ajay plays the role of a fearless IT officer who carries out a non-stop raid at the mansion of the most powerful man in Lucknow. Whereas Ileana D’Cruz plays the role of Ajay’s wife.
Saurabh Shukla as Tauji is the lynchpin of the striking supporting cast, with the screenplay giving him enough space to inject interesting shades of gray into the characterisation. Sheeba Chadha as one of the bahus of his household and Amit Sial as Amay’s colleague are among the multiple satellite characters who lend interesting detailing to their characters’ questionable morality.
Heroine Gayathri not only does she look beautiful, plays her part well, He has does a fine job and portrays natural really well entire film. She looks good in certain scenes and does her job well.
Thankfully, none of the bad folk here are caricatures and one of the most engaging parts of Raid is Tauji’s relationship with his brusque, wizened old mother.
At just 128 minutes and 3 seconds, Raid is just the right length for the written material it is based on. The opening text on screen informs us that it is “based on true stories”, and in the end we are informed about the perils faced by income tax officials in real life.
While watching the movie, you can’t help but draw parallels with Akshay Kumar’s 2013 movie Special 26. Neeraj Pandey put out a pulsating thriller making us sit on the edge of our seats and that’s where Raid fails.
Ajay Devgn is good at playing an officer taking over the system, be it in Singham or Gangaajal but Raid pales in comparison. Maybe, it is a film for his fans who love him in this avatar but it is high time he reinvent himself.
Tollywood actress Gayathri is another actress who has made her way to B-Town city, joining the bandwagon of south Indian heroines, getting into Hindi films. This model-turned actress gets a big break through her Bollywood debut Raid, in which she is paired as second lead opposite Ajay Devgn and shares screen space with Ileana D’Souza, who plays the lead. The actress sharing a picture of hers with Ajay Devgn with City Express.
Gayathri, who told IANS: “I’m glad my debut is with a non-glam and realistic role.” About working with Ajay, she said: “I know Ajay sir is a very good actor and a big star but what really struck me was how he is completely apolitical.”
