The year 1991 marked the first collaboration between Tamil and Malayalam acting greats, Rajinikanth and Mammootty, in the Tamil crime-drama Thalapathy. And now, southern superstars Rajinikanth and Mammootty would be reuniting for their Marathi debut, title Pasaayadan.
The film will also be the Marathi debut of both the superstars. Mirror adds that the film is expected to go on the floors in February, 2018. Producer-politician Balkrishna Surve is most likely to produce the film, as he is the one who got Rajinikanth on board.
The film comes as a pleasant surprise for fans around the world as in recent times, there were rumours of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam re-uniting the two superstars in his upcoming film. There were other industry officials who stated that Mammootty would be making a special appearance in Pa Ranjith’s forthcoming crime-thriller, Kaala Karikaalan, which will feature Rajinikath as a Mumbai-based don.
Both Rajinikanth and Mammootty command immense fan following in south India. Such was their idolatry, when Thalapathy released, the makers of the film had to shoot different climaxes so as to comply to the requirements and sentiments of the fans of these two actors in Tamil Nadu and Kerala respectively.
Meanwhile, Rajini will be next seen in S Shankar’s Robot sequel, 2.0, which also features Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson.
