A day after granting bail to controversial actress Rakhi Sawant in a case of hurting religious sentiments, a local court on Friday cancelled it as she failed to appear in the court for hearing.
The court of judicial magistrate Vishav Gupta issued fresh non-bailable warrants against the actor who failed to produce a bail bond from a local resident. The next hearing of the case is on August 7.
Rakhi is facing a case related to alleged objectionable remarks against sage Valmiki. The complaint is a Ludhiana lawyer Narinder Aadia.
A court in Ludhiana on Thursday granted bail to actress Rakhi Sawant, who appeared before in wearing a burqa to avoid being detected, in a case related to objectionable remarks against sage Valmiki.
Rakhi surrendered before the court on Thursday, a day ahead of the hearing of the case against her.
Rakhi got the bail after furnishing two bonds of Rs one lakh each. She later left for Mumbai.
The court had earlier issued non-bailable warrants against her last month and directed police to ensure her presence in the court on July 7.
“I went to the court and I was tortured there very badly. A group of people even used abusive words. What was my mistake? I did nothing wrong. The court granted me bail, but now once again the warrant has been issued against me,” Rakhi said in a statement.
“I don’t want to go to Ludhiana. Why can’t they pass the case to Mumbai court. Where is women security? I never wanted to be in a burqa. But I have my own story, ‘Lipstick Under My Burqa’ and I really need help,” she added.
A Punjab Police team had gone to Mumbai in April to arrest her. However, it returned empty-handed as she was not found at her given address.
