It was earlier reported that Thani Oruvan, which featured Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara in lead roles, will be remade in Telugu. Ram Charan was roped in to play the lead in the untitled Telugu version, which is to be helmed by director Surender Reddy. After various speculations on who the heroine might be, it has recently been learnt that Rakul Preet Singh has been brought on board.

“Rakul has been finalised as the heroine. After last year’s ‘Bruce Lee‘, this is the second time she’s pairing up with Ram Charan,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.

Confirming the news, the actress says, “I’m doing the film, although am yet to officially sign on the dotted line. The shooting will commence soon, and I will join the crew by March or April.”

An admirer of Nayanthara’s work, Rakul says it will be challenge to play character which Nayan essayed in the Tamil version of the film. She adds, “Nayan is a classy actress. I will be very happy if I can match her in portraying the mature and bold character that she pulled off in the Tamil version.”
On being paired opposite Ram Charan for the second time, she says being approached to work with any artiste for the second time is an “acknowledgment of her commitment.”
