The much talked about controversial director of Telugu origin who has made a mark for himself in Bollywood as a big gun director, Ram Gopal Varma is once again in trouble and this time its not because of his loose mouth statements but because of his film ‘Aag’ which is a remake of Sholay. Unlike Sholay, his movie ‘Aag’ turned out to be a box office debacle and is proving to be a costly affair for RGV now.
According to media sources, RGV will have to shell out a fine of 10 lakh rupees to the makers of ‘Sholay’ , the Sippy family for the vindictive damage he had done by copying the super hit film. The Delhi High Court has passed the order recently. According to Justice Manmohan Singh’s statements, RGV’s film ‘Aag’ “distorted and mutilated the original copyright work of the plaintiffs.” Besides, the filmmaker was found to have “infringed the moral rights”, by having released the remake without any authorization from the original film’s makers. Looks like the director is in trouble big time.
