Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan announced on Wednesday that he will be presenting each Indian athlete at the Rio Olympics 2016 with a cheque of Rs 101,000 as a “gesture of appreciation”.
“As a gesture of appreciation for our Olympic athletes, I will present each one with a cheque of Rs 101,000,” Salman, who is India’s goodwill ambassador for the games, tweeted.

When Salman Khan was selected as the goodwill ambassador for the Rio 2016 Olympics in April, the Sports Federation was criticized back and forth, calling Salman incompetent to represent something as prestigious as the Olympiads. With the mega event now drawing towards its end, India has nothing much to look forward to, besides a set of controversies and a list of dismal performances. While Women Wrestler Sakshi Malik managed to grab a bronze at the 58 kg freestyle wrestling on Day 27th, there is no other boastworthy win in India’s lap.
Salman said, ‘The government is very supportive of sports . Each of us can also do our bit to encourage a sports nation.’ The ‘Sultan’ star also heaped praises on non-profit foundation as it helps budding sports in becoming ‘tomorrow’s champions’.
Salman’s gesture is sure to draw more support to improve the conditions of the athletes in India.
