Samantha Akkineni one of the most popular actresses in T-town  and she is currently going through a lovely phase in life. This October, she tied the knot with longtime friend/actor Naga Chaitanya and added a new dimension to her life.

Director Pawan Kumar’s critically-acclaimed Kannada film U-Turn, that featured Shraddha Srinath in the lead role, was one of the best films to come out of the southern film industry last year. Following the film’s wide acclaim and fabulous box-office reception, it was announced that Samantha Akkineni will feature in its Tamil and Telugu remake.

U-Turn follows the life of an intern journalist, played by Shraddha, who tries to uncover the mystery behind the deaths of motorists who break a traffic rule on a particular flyover in Bengaluru.

Now, there is more good news for Sam’s well-wishers. According to a leading portal, Samantha will be playing the female lead in the Tamil remake of the Kannada hit ‘U Turn’. Confirming this, a source said that the remake will go on the floors in January 2018 and will be wrapped up in three schedules.

“The pre-production work has been going on for the last few months. The principal shooting will commence from the third week of January next year. As of now, the remake is only happening in Tamil. The makers are yet to take a call on to shoot the film simultaneously in Telugu. The film will be wrapped up in three schedules,” added the source.

“Sam has been on board from the beginning. In fact, it was her idea to remake the project after she was mighty impressed with the film. She had watched the film in a special screening in Bengaluru last year. Nithya was never in the picture,” added the source.

Samantha is currently shooting for her upcoming Tamil film, which is directed by Ponram. Billed as a romantic flick, the film is set in a rural backdrop and has Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. Interestingly she also plays the female lead in Tollywood star Ram Charan’s period drama Rangasthalam, which is also a village-based film.

“He has a great command over his craft, and it’s very endearing to see that kind of positivity and confidence. I believe that’s also a reason why someone as experienced as Vijay, who has worked with the biggest of names in the industry, came back to Atlee for a second time (after Theri) because there’s some magic in this man. I think he’s going to strike gold again in his own style. Mersal is like a complete showreel for Vijay,” Sam had told a leading website.

It’ll be a busy 2018 for Samantha who’ll have multiple releases. Her first major release will be Vishal-starrer Irumbu Thirai, slated to release during Pongal. She also has Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam, Vijay Sethupathi’s Super Deluxe, the Savitri biopic Mahanati and Sivakarthikeyan-Ponram yet-untitled Tamil flick.
