A six-foot-long cobra was found at a Shiva temple in Monastery Market near ISBT on Friday. The sight of a six-foot highly venomous snake in the courtyard of the temple frightened the priest and lead to chaos among the devotees, who broke into a run.The Wildlife SOS rapid response unit rescued it after the frightened priest had his neighbor call the organisation’s 24-hour rescue hotline.
Senior priest Jagdeesh Das, who discovered the snake, said: “The snake fell from the roof. We were terrified, but tried to hold it in place with the help of a wooden pole until the rescue team arrived. To our relief, it didn’t take much time for the skilled team to catch the snake.”The cobra was found to be healthy during examination. The reptile has been released into its natural habitat.
