In the quiet and serene ashram of Rishikesh, the 85 year old Swami Dayananda Saraswathi succumbed to death on Wednesday night. He has been ill for quite some time now. Swami Dayananda Saraswathi was born in Manjakudi in 1930, Swami was known in his pre-monastic days as Natarajan.  During the late 1950s and early 1960s, his association with Swami Chinmayananda grew closer as he began taking Vedanta lessons. In 1962, he took ‘Sanyas’ to become Swami Dayananda Saraswati.

Both their association continued for a long duration and they started up Sandipani Sadhanalaya in Bombay to train people in Vedanta. With his valuable teachings, and with Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, hundreds of people learnt Vedanta and spread the Vedic message.  bringing pontiffs from all over the country on a common platform to take up the cause of Hinduism and debate the challenges it faced, Swami Dayananda Saraswati set up the Acharya Sabha. He also voiced out against religious conversion claiming it to be incursion of loyalty.
