Residents of Khanapur in Armoor mandal have decided to change the name of their village as ‘Kavithapur’ after Nizamabad MP K. Kavitha. The villagers urged officials to take steps in this regard and have installed flexi-boards at the entrance of Khanapur.
Khanapur is a village submerged due to Sriramsagar project on the banks of River Godavari. The renaming is an expression of the residents’ gratitude to the MP who had assured them of rehabilitation and resettlement. The villagers had been facing problems vis-a-vis their residential and agriculture needs.
“There were 274 houses in the village, which was submerged under the SRSP waters. We have been rehabilitated in a new place, a few kilometres away from our original village. Our MP has taken initiative in allotting a new piece of land to rebuild the village. We met Kavitha a couple of days ago and requested for construction of 2BHK houses for all the 274 households,” she said.
Thrilled with Kavitha’s gesture, the villagers have already rechristened their village’s name after Kavitha and even displayed banners announcing the same at the village’s entrance.
