Of course Bollywood is the dream place for almost every girl that becomes heroine in regional cinema. If there is any film industry down in south has that fancy vibe after Bollywood that will be Tollywood. It could be the remuneration, treatment or the quick formation of fan base, whatever the reason is, given a chance, heroines from other languages don’t take much time to sign Telugu films.
Though more than 70% of the regular heroines here are from North, we still hold the regret of losing a lot of super-talented heroines for many reasons. Here is the list of such leading ladies who were here for one or two films and never looked back at us.
The 19 year old multi-talented heroine is not an ordinary Mumbai girl. She is the grandniece of Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar, daughter of yesteryear’s actress Shaheen Ahmed and actor Sumeet Saigal. When she got an offer to act next to Akhil Akkineni, everyone including her mentor Salman Khan thought it is going to be a great combination as they both are from strong film based families and the film is being directed by V.V. Vinayak. But who guessed it is going to be a disaster at box office and now Sayesha Saigal is getting ready for her grand debut in Bollywood by Ajay Devgn‘s directorial venture, Shivaay.
This Mumbai beauty has done her debut into Tollywood along with Sweety Anushka. Who can forget Srivalli in Nagarjuna’s ‘Super’? Although she tried her best to deliver convincing acting skills and did a bit of skin show as per the ‘script demand’, unfortunately she was never seen on Telugu screen again. She did over 20 Bollywood films won a couple of ‘Best Actress’ awards and recently got married to a businessman in 2009 and has a two year old son now.
There is a very small list of heroines that can look equally glamorous next to Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu. One of such beauties is, ‘Athidi’ fame Amrita Rao. This award winning actress couldn’t get enough limelight and probably overshadowed by Mahesh, thus couldn’t get noticed well. Therefore, Athidhi was her first and last movie in Telugu.
This Delhi based heroine made her debut into films with ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’, a year later she entered south film industry with a bi-lingual (Telugu and Tamil) romantic comedy ‘Aha Kalyanam’ which was the official remake of Bollywood film ‘Band Baaja Baarat’. She is tall, good looking and expressive. But she never signed another film in Telugu. Now, she is doing a lead next to Ranveer Singh in his next, ‘Befikre’.
With over 30 feature films in various languages, she won 12 awards for different verticals and got nominated for many more. She is known nationally for her natural and passionate acting. She is into acting, direction and voice narration. Over her career, Nandita acted in one Telugu film, ‘Kamli’ for which she won Nandi Award as Best Actress. That is all her interaction with Telugu Film Industry. Hardly anyone knows her here.
The very quirky and very edgy Neha Sharma, who made her debut with ‘Chirutha’ next to (along with) Ram Charan Tej couldn’t make it big in TFI. She was overlooked through the eclipse of Mega Hero debut. She later got another film next to Varun Sandesh but that wasn’t helpful at all. Her career here is concealed. Is it temporary or forever, we don’t know it yet.
Another Bollywood diva that went invisible next to the charming Mahesh Babu. She entered Tollywood with ‘Takkari Donga’. Her striking performance and screen presence worked like charm. Though she was an add-on to the film, she wasn’t seen again in Telugu Films.
An amazing super talent that Tollywood lost forever and ever. Started as a theatre artist, Radhika made it huge in Bollywood and Bengali films. She tried her luck in Tollywood but couldn’t withstand the male domination in the industry. Her voicing out the same problem in a couple of interviews, irked a lot of movie makers, actors and producers. There was a buzz that she was banned from Telugu films. Banned or boycotted, she is doing quite well for herself in Bollywood.
Right now the most discussed and controversial A-listed star of Bollywood. Irrespective of all the issues and fights that are going on, kangana Ranaut is one of the finest actress we have in our country today. The reviews of her films and the awards she won make it clear. According to her Ex-boyfriend, she has done Prabhas’s ‘Ek Niranjan’ only for some extra money to buy herself a car. May be that is the reason she never came back here.
A heroine that got charisma equal to heroes. The B-town sensation, who made it as huge as no one ever could or did. Miss World 2000 made her Tollywood debut with ‘Apuroopam’. Starred along with Madhukar and Prasanna, PC looked nowhere close to the way she looks today. Despite of the fact that the film never got released, you’ll love her more for the transformation. Later in 2013, she was featured in a bilingual by Apoorva Lakhia ‘Thoofan’ opposite to Ram Charan Tej, it wasn’t as successful as they thought at box office. Let me remind you, she is a ‘Padma Sri’ recipient.
We hardly give space for the heroines in the posters, trailers and promotions, especially if they are new comers and from other languages. Only successful and well-known heroines get the privilege to be seen and get promoted on public platform. Is that the reason the new heroines vanish as they don’t get enough light? What do you think?
