After winning the hearts of the Malayalam audience, Nivin Pauly established a strong fanbase in Tamil Nadu, thanks to Alphonse Putharen’s Premam, which ran for 100 days in Chennai alone.
Though titles like Santa Maria and Avargal was doing the rounds online, the makers have confirmed that the film is officially titled Richie.
Speaking about the film, director Gautham Ramachandran saying, “We have fixed Richie as the title and it is Nivin’s name in the film. We had considered a lot of options and producers Anand Kumar and Vinod Shornur felt that Richie would be perfect for the film. The title design and the first look poster will be unveiled in the coming week.”
Richie will also mark Nivin’s second Tamil film after Neram, which is a remake of new age Kannada crime drama ‘Ulidavaru Kandanthe’.
Sources say that Nivin plays a rogue ‘Richard’ in the film, which is set in Thoothukudi backdrop. Shraddha Srinath of U Turn fame plays the female lead in Richie, the film also has Prakash Raj playing Nivin’s dad while Lakshmi Priya will be seen as a fisherwoman and Vishal’s dad GK Reddy also plays an important role.
