From dominating Bollywood with unmatched brilliance to sashaying at international red carpets like a total boss, Priyanka Chopra has come a long way. The global star is known as the strong woman who speaks her mind emphatically, irrespective of the risk of criticism, and among many other great things, of course.
Priyanka Chopra will be honoured at Hollywood magazine, Variety’s Power of Women alongside Octavia Spencer, Patty Jenkins and others.
In behind-the-scenes video with the magazine, the diva spoke candidly about what makes her so powerful.
The actress revealed, “I don’t always feel powerful. I think that sometimes women have to show an enormous amount of strength to be perceived as unbreakable and that we can walk toe-to-toe with any man and anyone around the world. But women are physiologically different. It’s hard. I am vulnerable sometimes, I’m moody sometimes and it is hard for me. There is no way I let anyone see that when I walk onto a set and I think that’s what makes me powerful.”
Priyanka added, “What makes me powerful is being able to emotionally check myself. Use my vulnerabilities as my strength. I think that is the power of feminity.”
On being a female actor of colour, the actress said, “They’re still not being written for us as much as they should. I’m digging my feet in and saying I will not settle for parts which are less, especially as a woman of colour. I want to be able to play mainstream parts without the need in the storyline to describe why an Indian is playing an American.”
“Diversity needs to be normal, it should not be a novelty. It should not be the conversation,” Priyanka stated.
