In a way, Vikram’s Iru Mugan is the most important film in his career. The sci-fi action thriller, directed by Anand Shankar, has Vikram in his first dual role and he’s paired opposite Nayanthara, who is arguably the most successful actress of south Indian cinema currently. Iru Mugan also has Nithya Menen playing a crucial role.
“So why is Iru Mugan crucial for Vikram? Trade analysts have said that the national award winning actor has done 11 films in the last decade from 2005 to 2015m and only two of them have worked big at the box-office.”
Both the films that were super hits, Anniyan (2005) and I (2015), were directed by the showman of south, Shankar. Vikram now has to prove that he can churn out a hit with other directors and he is still a force to reckon with at the box-office.
‘Iru Mugan’ is simultaneously releasing in Telugu with ‘Inkokkadu’ title.
The film has Vikram playing a RAW agent Akilan, and the villain rumoured to be a transgender character called Love, who is also an eccentric scientist.
This is the first time that Vikram will be scene donning a dual role.
Director of Iru Mugan Anand Shankar furthers this, “Yes Vikram sir is doing his first dual role. Both characters are entirely different and there is also an action scene between the two. Akilan is the protagonist while Love is the antagonist. He has done a terrific job in this difficult double role. Please note, he is not playing a transgender villain as it may look in the trailer. When you watch the film you can get the connection.”
Iru Mugan has been sold to many centres on the strength of its trailer and hit music of Harris Jayaraj. The film in Tamil, and its dubbed version in Telugu, is expected to take a huge opening worldwide on September 8.
