In an announcement made by the Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha today, the Indian Air Force (IAF) plans to introduce women into fighter stream soon. The announcement was made at a function celebrating the 83 anniversary of the formation of the IAF in Hindon, Uttar Pradesh. Women are already flying transport aircraft and helicopters in the force.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the contributions of the IAF have been monumental. “They are always at the forefront, be it in protecting skies or in times of disasters,” wrote PM Modi. President Pranab Mukherjee, the commander of India’s armed forces, also paid tributes to the force.
